Talking Green: Bringing Orange County Together

Join the USGBC Orange County community and leadership at a milestone event to kick off our 2023 year. We will be meeting at Orange County’s next generation LEED Gold office space: the Boardwalk in Irvine, on January 31, 2023 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. for an amazing lineup of speakers and experts in sustainability. The presentations will include Jeff “Yoki” Yokoyama, the original founder of Maui and Sons, 1980, Kendra Chandler from ULI Orange County, Jo-E Lopez and Jason Rich from Snyder Langston, Sponsor Kevin Winbauer from Sterile Safe Solutions and Orange County & Los Angeles County Leadership from USGBC. The agenda and speaker lineup will include:

  • Welcome and USGBC Advocacy Update by Moderator Robyn Vettraino, LEED AP BD+C and Homes, SITES AP, UCGBC Orange County Co-Chair, Principal, VCA Green

  • Sterile Safe Solutions Sponsor Presentation by Kevin Winbauer, President and Co-Founder, Sterile Safe Solutions

  • Host Welcome and Remarks by Snyder Langston, Joe-E Lopez, Vice President & Jason Rich, President

  • LEED Advancement Committee Update by Joseph Marfi, LEED AP, WELL AP, Senior Sustainability Specialist, Turner Construction. This presentation will be focused on the unique future of ESG on Turner projects, how LEED helps hold value during economic turndowns Overlay of ESG and LEED. Inflation Reduction Act and LEED or ESG. How this aligns with USGBC – Orange County.

  • The Latest in Orange County with Urban Land Institute with Kendra Chandler, District Council Coordinator -ULI Orange County

  • Introduction to Carbon, and LA Perspective with Ben Stapleton, Executive Director, USGBC-Los Angeles

  • Yokishop’s New Collaboration with Orange Coast College with Jeff “Yoki” Yokoyama, Original Founder of Maui and Sons, 1980. Founder Yokishop and numerous other brands that aim to cut carbon out of the fashion industry. Yoki will talk about his new collaboration with Orange Coast College and how even one unique Orange County designer can make a difference.

  • Grover Burthey, PIMCO. Execute Vice President in Newport Beach office, where he leads all portfolio management responsibilities for ESG investing. He will give highlights from their Net Zero Framework.   

  • Networking Reception: The program will be followed by a networking reception where attendees will have the opportunity to talk to speakers one-on-one, interact with leaders in the green building industry, explore the Boardwalk, network with peers, and enjoy light refreshments. And try recycled water beer provided by Epic Cleantec.

This is a unique opportunity for all those involved in sustainability, planning, green buildings, engineering, architecture, development, energy, education, retail, consulting and the many facets of Orange County’s diverse sustainability industry. Attendees can also find out about leadership opportunities in Orange County’s green building space.
